微言 Wēiyán publishes book-length Classical Chinese (文言文) rendered as English literature, alongside a blog documenting the work. The name means "subtle words," from 微言大義 — profound meaning expressed in subtle language. We let the Chinese stand beside the English as an equal, and we say plainly where a rendering strains.

How these translations are made

These translations are made by a multi-agent pipeline modeled on a real translation team — one agent analyzes, others gloss, render, refine, and review — with a consistency it would be impractical for a human team to hold across a whole book: one glossary, one entity registry, one terminology standard, applied to every chapter alike. Human editors review the result, and where a rendering is contested or the source ambiguous, we say so in the notes.

The method's advantage is not speed or cost but thoroughness: it sustains steps a human team would find too slow or too tedious to carry across an entire work — a corpus-wide glossary, a consistent entity registry, terminology checked end to end, continuity tracked chunk to chunk. The result is the rigor of a well-staffed scholarly edition, applied uniformly from the first chapter to the last. The evidence is in the work itself: the notes, the glossary, the named-entity consistency.
